Mahi Shekam Por is a traditional Persian dish that features a flavorful herb stuffing inside a tender fish, creating a delightful combination of flavors. This dish is perfect for a special occasion or a family dinner.
Ingredients
- 4 whole fish, such as mahi mahi or sea bass
- 1 cup chopped parsley
- 1 cup chopped cilantro
- 1 cup chopped dill
- 1/2 cup chopped chives
- 1/4 cup chopped tarragon
- 1/4 cup chopped mint
- 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
- 1/4 cup barberries (zereshk)
- 1/4 cup pomegranate molasses
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Clean and gut the fish, leaving the head and tail intact. Make a few diagonal cuts on each side of the fish.
- In a bowl, mix together the chopped herbs, walnuts, barberries, pomegranate molasses, olive oil, salt, and pepper to create the stuffing.
- Stuff the herb mixture inside the cavity of each fish, then secure the opening with toothpicks.
- Heat some olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the stuffed fish in the skillet and cook for about 15 minutes on each side, or until the fish is cooked through.
- Once cooked, remove the toothpicks and transfer the fish to a serving platter.
