Mahshi Fil Fil (middle Eastern Stuffed Bell Peppers)
Mahshi Fil Fil is a traditional Emirati dish of stuffed bell peppers filled with a flavorful mixture of rice, meat, and aromatic spices. This dish is a popular choice for family gatherings and special occasions in the UAE.
Ingredients
- 4 large bell peppers
- 1 cup long-grain rice
- 300g ground beef or lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut the tops off the bell peppers and remove the seeds and membranes.
- In a large bowl, combine the rice, ground meat, onion, tomatoes, garlic, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Stuff the bell peppers with the rice and meat mixture, and place them in a deep pot.
- Pour the broth over the stuffed peppers, cover the pot, and simmer on the stovetop for 1 hour or until the peppers are tender and the filling is cooked.
- Once cooked, remove the stuffed peppers from the pot and place them on a serving dish.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
