Ingredients

  • 6 bell peppers, tops removed and seeds discarded
  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground meat, rice, onion, tomatoes, garlic, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
  2. Stuff the bell peppers with the meat and rice mixture.
  3. In a large pot, combine the tomato sauce and broth. Place the stuffed bell peppers in the pot.
  4. Cover and simmer over low heat for 1 hour, or until the peppers are tender and the filling is cooked through.
  5. Serve the Mahshi Filfil hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
