Mahshi Malfouf (saudi Arabian Stuffed Cabbage Rolls)
Mahshi Malfouf is a traditional Saudi Arabian dish made of stuffed cabbage rolls. This flavorful and comforting dish is a staple in Saudi Arabian cuisine, and it's perfect for sharing with family and friends.
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 cup of rice
- 500g ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups of chicken or vegetable broth
Instructions
- Boil the whole head of cabbage in a large pot of water for 5-7 minutes until the leaves are soft and pliable. Remove from the water and let it cool.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the rice, ground beef, onion, tomatoes, tomato paste, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Carefully peel off the cabbage leaves and place a spoonful of the meat and rice mixture in the center of each leaf. Roll the leaves, tucking in the sides, to form the cabbage rolls.
- Place the cabbage rolls in a large pot, seam side down. Pour the broth over the rolls and bring to a simmer.
- Cover and cook for 45-50 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Serve the Mahshi Malfouf hot with a side of yogurt or salad.
