Mahshi Silq (stuffed Swiss Chard Rolls)
Mahshi Silq is a traditional Syrian Jewish dish made with Swiss chard leaves stuffed with a flavorful rice and ground beef mixture. This dish is a delicious representation of the rich and diverse Syrian Jewish cuisine.
Ingredients
- 1 bunch Swiss chard leaves
- 1 cup rice
- 250g ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/4 cup olive oil
Instructions
- Wash the Swiss chard leaves and trim the tough stems.
- In a bowl, mix the rice, ground beef, onion, tomatoes, tomato paste, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
- Place a spoonful of the rice mixture onto each Swiss chard leaf and roll it up tightly.
- Arrange the stuffed chard rolls in a pot, seam side down.
- Pour the chicken broth and olive oil over the rolls.
- Cover the pot and cook over medium heat for 1 hour.
- Serve the Mahshi Silq hot and enjoy!
