Majboos Bil Har (qatari Shrimp Majboos With Fragrant Rice)
Majboos Bil Har is a traditional Qatari dish that features fragrant rice cooked with flavorful spices and succulent shrimp. This dish is a staple in Qatari cuisine and is perfect for a hearty and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 kg shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 4 tomatoes, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons Baharat spice mix
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until they are soft and translucent.
- Add the minced garlic, Baharat spice mix, turmeric, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, and cardamom to the pot. Stir well to combine and cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the diced tomatoes and cook for another 5 minutes until they start to break down.
- Add the shrimp to the pot and cook for 3-4 minutes until they turn pink and opaque.
- Stir in the basmati rice and season with salt and pepper. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the rice and shrimp simmer for 20-25 minutes until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
