Makbous (omani Spiced Lamb And Bell Pepper Tagine)
Makbous is a traditional Omani dish that features spiced lamb and bell peppers cooked in a flavorful tagine. This dish is a perfect representation of Omani cuisine, with its rich blend of spices and tender, succulent meat.
Ingredients
- 500g lamb, cut into cubes
- 2 tbsp Omani spice blend
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 bell peppers, sliced
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 2 cups chicken broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Season the lamb cubes with Omani spice blend, salt, and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a tagine or large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the seasoned lamb and cook until browned on all sides, then remove from the tagine and set aside.
- In the same tagine, sauté the onion and garlic until softened.
- Add the bell peppers and continue to cook for a few minutes.
- Stir in the basmati rice and chicken broth, then return the lamb to the tagine.
- Cover and simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the lamb is tender.
- Adjust seasoning if needed, then serve hot.
