Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups ground poppy seeds
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the milk and vanilla.
  2. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out one half of the dough to fit the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the ground poppy seeds, honey, and chopped walnuts. Spread the poppy seed filling over the dough in the baking dish.
  5. Roll out the remaining dough and place it over the filling. Press the edges to seal the dough together.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool before cutting into squares and serving.
