Makoume is a traditional fish soup from Equatorial Guinea, specifically from the Fang ethnic group. This flavorful and hearty soup is a staple dish in Equatorial Guinea cuisine, often enjoyed with fufu or rice.
Ingredients
- 1 pound fish fillets, cut into chunks
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 1 hot pepper, chopped (optional for heat)
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 4 cups fish or vegetable broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat.
- Add the onions, garlic, and bell pepper. Sauté until the vegetables are softened.
- Stir in the tomatoes, hot pepper (if using), and tomato paste. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Pour in the fish or vegetable broth and bring to a simmer.
- Add the fish chunks and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the Makoume hot and enjoy!
