Makroud (algerian Stuffed Dates With Almonds)
Makroud is a popular Algerian dessert made with stuffed dates and almonds. It's a sweet and nutty treat that is perfect for special occasions or as a delicious snack.
Ingredients
- 20 Medjool dates, pitted
- 1 cup almonds, blanched and finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon orange blossom water
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup honey
Instructions
- Combine the chopped almonds, cinnamon, and orange blossom water in a bowl.
- Stuff each date with the almond mixture and press to seal.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the stuffed dates and cook until they are golden brown on all sides.
- In a separate saucepan, combine the water, sugar, and honey. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes to make the syrup.
- Dip the cooked dates in the syrup, then place them on a wire rack to cool and allow the syrup to set.
- Serve the makroud at room temperature and enjoy!
