Makroud is a traditional Tunisian dessert that is popular during special occasions and holidays. This delicious cake is made with oranges and almonds, giving it a unique and delightful flavor.
Ingredients
- 3 large oranges, washed and quartered
- 1 cup almond meal
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup fine semolina
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup orange blossom water
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a food processor, blend the quartered oranges until smooth.
- In a large bowl, combine the blended oranges, almond meal, sugar, semolina, vegetable oil, baking powder, vanilla extract, salt, and orange blossom water. Mix until well combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 40 minutes or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar before serving.
