Makroud (tunisian Spiced Pumpkin Bread)
Makroud is a traditional Tunisian spiced pumpkin bread that is perfect for breakfast or as a snack. It is a delicious and aromatic bread that is easy to make and full of warm spices.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 flax eggs (2 tbsp ground flaxseed + 6 tbsp water)
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- In another bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, vegetable oil, and flax eggs.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the chopped walnuts.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
