Makrouta (algerian Almond And Orange Blossom Water Tart)
Makrouta is a traditional Algerian tart made with almonds and orange blossom water. This sweet and fragrant dessert is perfect for special occasions or as a treat with tea or coffee.
Ingredients
- 2 cups almond flour
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup orange blossom water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup orange blossom water
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the almond flour, powdered sugar, orange blossom water, vegetable oil, salt, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla extract, and water to form a smooth dough. Set aside.
- In another bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, vegetable oil, water, and orange blossom water to form a dough.
- Take a small portion of the almond dough and roll it into a log shape. Repeat with the all-purpose flour dough.
- Place the almond dough log on top of the all-purpose flour dough log and press down gently to flatten.
- Cut the flattened dough into diamond-shaped pieces and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
