Malabar Fish Curry
Malabar Fish Curry is a traditional dish from the Kerala Cuisine, known for its rich and flavorful taste. This curry is made with a perfect blend of spices and coconut milk, creating a delightful dish that pairs perfectly with steamed rice or appam.
Ingredients
- 500g fish fillets
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
- 1 cup thick coconut milk
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
Instructions
- Marinate the fish fillets with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 15 minutes.
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and add fenugreek seeds. Once they start to splutter, add chopped onions, ginger, garlic, and curry leaves. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add tomatoes, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil starts to separate.
- Gently place the marinated fish fillets into the pan. Pour thick coconut milk over the fish.
- Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes on low heat until the fish is cooked through and the curry thickens.
- Adjust the seasoning and garnish with fresh curry leaves.
