Malai Kofta Curry
Malai Kofta Curry is a popular North Indian dish made with fried potato and paneer balls served in a rich and creamy tomato-based gravy. It is a delicious and indulgent dish that is perfect for special occasions or weekend meals.
Ingredients
- 2 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 200g paneer, grated
- 2 tbsp cornflour
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup cashew nuts, soaked and ground to a paste
- 1/2 cup fresh cream
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the mashed potatoes, grated paneer, cornflour, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt. Shape the mixture into small balls.
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the potato-paneer balls until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel and set aside.
- In a separate pan, heat some oil and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then add the tomato puree, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Stir in the cashew nut paste and cook for a few minutes. Then add the fresh cream and sugar. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Add the fried kofta balls to the gravy and simmer for 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
