Malfouf Mahshi is a traditional Kuwaiti dish made of tender cabbage leaves stuffed with a flavorful mixture of rice and meat, cooked to perfection in a savory tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 cup of rice
- 500g of ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 2 cups of tomato sauce
- 2 cups of chicken broth
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Core the cabbage and carefully remove the leaves. Blanch the leaves in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then drain and set aside.
- In a bowl, mix the rice, ground beef, onion, garlic, cinnamon, allspice, black pepper, nutmeg, and salt.
- Place a spoonful of the rice and meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf, then fold the sides and roll it up.
- In a large pot, arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls, then pour the tomato sauce and chicken broth over them.
- Cover and cook over low heat for 1 hour, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
