Malu Kebab (sri Lankan Fish Cutlets)
Malu Kebab, also known as Sri Lankan Fish Cutlets, are a popular snack in Sri Lankan cuisine. These delicious fish cutlets are made with a flavorful combination of fish, spices, and herbs, and are perfect for serving as an appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
- 500g boneless fish fillets, such as mackerel or tuna
- 1 large potato, boiled and mashed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp ground coriander
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh curry leaves
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Boil the fish fillets until cooked, then flake the fish with a fork.
- In a large bowl, combine the flaked fish, mashed potato, chopped onion, green chilies, ginger garlic paste, chili powder, turmeric powder, black pepper, cumin, coriander, fresh coriander leaves, and curry leaves. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into round cutlets.
- Dip each cutlet into the beaten egg, then coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the cutlets until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove the cutlets from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or chutney.
