Malu Mas Curry (sri Lankan Fish Curry With Coconut Milk)
Malu Mas Curry is a traditional Sri Lankan fish curry made with aromatic spices and creamy coconut milk. This flavorful dish is a staple in Sri Lankan cuisine and is perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 500g firm white fish, cut into chunks
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, sliced
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 tsp fenugreek seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 can (400ml) coconut milk
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, ginger, green chilies, curry leaves, cinnamon stick, and fenugreek seeds. Sauté until the onions are soft and translucent.
- Add the turmeric powder, chili powder, and coriander powder. Stir well to combine with the onion mixture.
- Pour in the coconut milk and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and season with salt. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Gently add the fish chunks to the pot, making sure they are submerged in the curry. Simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
- Once the fish is cooked, remove the pot from the heat and let the curry rest for a few minutes before serving.
