Malu Roti (sri Lankan Fish Patties)
Malu Roti is a popular Sri Lankan snack made with flaky pastry and a spicy fish filling. These delicious fish patties are perfect for a quick snack or as part of a meal.
Ingredients
- 500g boneless fish, cooked and flaked
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 1 tsp garlic, minced
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp curry powder
- 1/2 cup fresh coriander, chopped
- Salt to taste
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- Water, as needed
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the cooked fish, onions, green chilies, ginger, garlic, chili powder, turmeric powder, curry powder, coriander, and salt to taste. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add water and knead to form a smooth dough.
- Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a small circle.
- Place a spoonful of the fish mixture in the center of each circle, then fold the dough over to encase the filling and seal the edges.
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the patties until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
