Malva Pudding
Malva pudding is a sweet and sticky South African dessert that is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. This decadent pudding is perfect for special occasions or just as a comforting treat.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon smooth apricot jam
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and sugar.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg, apricot jam, vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.
- Add the milk and hot water to the batter and mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 45 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the pudding is baking, prepare the sauce by heating the cream, sugar, and 1/4 cup of butter in a saucepan over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved.
- Once the pudding is done, pour the hot sauce over the hot pudding as soon as it comes out of the oven.
- Allow the pudding to soak up the sauce for at least 30 minutes before serving.
