Malva Pudding (siswati Malva Pudding)
Malva Pudding, also known as Siswati Malva Pudding, is a sweet and sticky dessert that is popular in Eswatini. This traditional South African dessert is a spongy caramelized pudding that is often served with custard or ice cream.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon apricot jam
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg and add the apricot jam, vinegar, and melted butter.
- Dissolve the baking soda in the milk and add to the egg mixture.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix well.
- Pour the batter into the greased baking dish and bake for 45 minutes.
- While the pudding is baking, prepare the sauce by heating the cream, butter, sugar, and hot water in a saucepan until the sugar has dissolved.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and simmer for a few minutes.
- Once the pudding is done, pour the hot sauce over the hot pudding as soon as it comes out of the oven.
- Allow the pudding to absorb the sauce before serving.
