Malvani Fish Curry (मालवणी फिश करी)

Ingredients

  • 500g fish (preferably pomfret or kingfish), cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tbsp Malvani masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until they turn golden brown.
  2. Add ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Now, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
  4. Add Malvani masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  5. Add the grated coconut and cook for 5-7 minutes on low heat.
  6. Pour in 2 cups of water and bring the curry to a gentle boil.
  7. Add the fish pieces and curry leaves. Simmer for 10-12 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or bhakri.
