Malvani Fish Curry (मालवणी फिश करी)
मालवणी फिश करी (Malvani Fish Curry) is a traditional Maharashtrian dish known for its rich and spicy flavors. This coastal delicacy is made with fresh fish and a blend of aromatic spices, making it a perfect choice for seafood lovers.
Ingredients
- 500g fish (preferably pomfret or kingfish), cleaned and cut into pieces
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1 tbsp Malvani masala
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until they turn golden brown.
- Add ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
- Now, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
- Add Malvani masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the grated coconut and cook for 5-7 minutes on low heat.
- Pour in 2 cups of water and bring the curry to a gentle boil.
- Add the fish pieces and curry leaves. Simmer for 10-12 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or bhakri.
