Malvani Prawn Handi

Ingredients

  • 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tbsp Malvani masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
  • 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a handi or deep pan over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the pureed tomatoes and cook until the oil separates.
  5. Add Malvani masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add the cleaned prawns and grated coconut. Mix gently to coat the prawns with the masala.
  7. Pour water and stir. Cover the handi and cook for 5-7 minutes until the prawns are cooked through.
  8. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or Malvani bhakri.
