Malvani Style Fish Biryani

Ingredients

  • 500g fish, cut into pieces
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 3-4 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
  • 1/2 cup chopped mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup Malvani masala
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish pieces with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Let it marinate for 30 minutes.
  2. Wash and soak the basmati rice for 20 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a large pot and sauté the sliced onions until golden brown.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes, green chilies, and Malvani masala. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  5. Add the marinated fish pieces and cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot. Mix gently to combine with the fish and spices.
  7. Pour in the water, add garam masala, coriander leaves, mint leaves, and salt. Bring to a boil.
  8. Cover the pot with a lid and cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes until the rice and fish are fully cooked.
  9. Once done, fluff the biryani gently with a fork and serve hot.
