Mangalorean Style (chicken Curry)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp Mangalorean curry masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add the ginger, garlic, green chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté for a few minutes until fragrant.
  3. Next, add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  4. Stir in the Mangalorean curry masala, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Pour in the tomato puree and coconut milk. Mix well and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 20-25 minutes until the chicken is tender.
  6. Adjust the seasoning and serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
