Manoushe (syrian Flatbread With Za'atar)
Manoushe is a popular Syrian flatbread topped with za'atar, a flavorful herb and spice mixture. It's a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, as a snack, or as part of a meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 tablespoons za'atar
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (for topping)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add 1 cup of warm water and the olive oil, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each portion into a thin circle.
- Spread 1 tablespoon of za'atar and 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil on each circle of dough. Place the dough in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the skillet and serve hot.
