Manti (uyghur Dumplings)
Manti are traditional Uyghur dumplings from Xinjiang, China, filled with seasoned ground meat and wrapped in a delicate dough. These dumplings are typically served with a yogurt sauce and are a popular dish in Uyghur cuisine.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground lamb or beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 package dumpling wrappers
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the ground meat, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper.
- Place a small amount of the meat mixture in the center of each dumpling wrapper. Fold the wrapper in half and pinch the edges to seal.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the dumplings and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
- While the dumplings are cooking, mix together the yogurt, butter, and paprika in a saucepan. Heat gently until warm.
- Once the dumplings are cooked, drain them and serve with the warm yogurt sauce. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro before serving.
