Mantu
Mantu is a traditional Afghan dumpling dish that is typically filled with seasoned ground meat and steamed to perfection. This recipe offers a delicious combination of flavors and textures that will surely impress your family and friends.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 package dumpling wrappers
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the ground meat, onion, garlic, coriander, cumin, turmeric, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Place a small amount of the meat mixture in the center of each dumpling wrapper. Fold the wrapper over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the filled dumplings in a single layer and cook until the bottoms are golden brown.
- Pour the water into the pot and cover with a lid. Allow the mantu to steam for about 45 minutes, or until the wrappers are tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Serve the mantu hot, topped with a dollop of yogurt.
