Mantu (afghan Dumplings)
Mantu is a traditional Afghan dish that consists of flavorful meat-filled dumplings, topped with a savory tomato-based sauce and yogurt. This dish is a staple in Pashtun cuisine and is perfect for sharing with family and friends.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 package dumpling wrappers
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Chopped fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the ground meat, onion, garlic, coriander, cumin, turmeric, salt, and pepper.
- Place a small amount of the meat mixture in the center of each dumpling wrapper. Fold the wrapper over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the filled dumplings in a single layer and cook until the bottoms are golden brown.
- Pour the tomato sauce over the dumplings, cover the pot, and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Serve the mantu topped with yogurt and garnished with fresh cilantro.
