Ingredients

  • 500g beef, thinly sliced
  • 10 shallots
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 5 red chilies
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 lemongrass stalks, white part only, thinly sliced
  • 3 Tbsp sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Grind shallots, garlic, red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and turmeric powder into a smooth paste.
  2. Marinate the beef slices with the spice paste, lemongrass, sweet soy sauce, vegetable oil, and salt. Let it sit for at least 1 hour.
  3. Thread the marinated beef onto skewers.
  4. Grill the satay over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired level of doneness.
  5. Serve the Maranggi Satay hot with steamed rice and a side of fresh cucumber and tomato salad.
