Marqooq Bil Bamia (qatari Spiced Lamb Stew With Okra)
Marqooq Bil Bamia is a traditional Qatari spiced lamb stew with okra that is bursting with flavor. This hearty and comforting dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lamb, cut into cubes
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 cup chopped tomatoes
- 2 cups fresh okra, trimmed
- 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the lamb cubes and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the lamb from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion and cook until softened. Add the minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, ground turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Return the browned lamb to the pot and add the chopped tomatoes, okra, and chicken or vegetable broth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1 hour, or until the lamb is tender and the okra is cooked through.
- Serve the Marqooq Bil Bamia hot with rice or bread.
