Mas Rihaakuru Stew (maldivian Fish Stew)
Mas Rihaakuru Stew, also known as Maldivian Fish Stew, is a traditional dish from the Maldives that is rich in flavor and a staple in Maldivian cuisine.
Ingredients
- 4 fillets of fresh fish
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 green chili, sliced
- 1 sprig of curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 2 cups coconut milk
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat some oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are translucent.
- Add the tomatoes, green chili, and curry leaves. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Stir in the turmeric powder and chili powder.
- Add the fish fillets and gently mix with the spices and vegetables.
- Pour in the coconut milk and season with salt. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
- Serve the Mas Rihaakuru Stew hot with steamed rice or crusty bread.
