Masaledar Gosht Biryani (spicy Lamb Biryani)
Masaledar Gosht Biryani is a flavorful and spicy lamb biryani dish that originates from Saraiki Cuisine. This aromatic and rich biryani is a perfect main course for special occasions and gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs lamb, cut into pieces
- 2 cups basmati rice, soaked for 30 minutes
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 4 tomatoes, chopped
- 4 green chilies, slit
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped
- 1/4 cup ghee
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 4 cups water
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat ghee in a large pot and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 2 minutes. Then, add the lamb pieces and cook until they are browned.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, green chilies, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Layer the soaked rice over the lamb mixture. Sprinkle garam masala, coriander leaves, and mint leaves on top.
- Pour water over the rice and lamb. Cover the pot and cook on low heat for 25-30 minutes, or until the rice and lamb are fully cooked.
- Once done, gently fluff the biryani with a fork and serve hot.
