Ingredients

  • 1 package of Maultaschen
  • 12 oz (340g) elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded Emmental cheese
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup (30g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup (50g) breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) butter, melted
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the Maultaschen according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  3. Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  4. In a large saucepan, melt the 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk constantly for 2 minutes to make a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream and Dijon mustard until smooth and thickened.
  6. Stir in the shredded Gruyère and Emmental cheeses until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to combine.
  8. Cut the cooked Maultaschen into bite-sized pieces and gently fold them into the mac and cheese mixture.
  9. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
  10. In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and melted butter. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top of the mac and cheese.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  12. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
