Mavinkai Chutney (tangy Raw Mango Chutney)
Mavinkai Chutney, also known as Tangy Raw Mango Chutney, is a popular condiment in Mangalurean cuisine. This chutney is bursting with the flavors of raw mango, coconut, and spices, making it a perfect accompaniment to rice, dosa, or idli.
Ingredients
- 1 raw mango, peeled and chopped
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 2-3 green chilies
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the chopped raw mango, grated coconut, green chilies, mustard seeds, asafoetida, and salt.
- Add a little water and blend to a smooth paste.
- Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.
- For the tempering, heat a small amount of oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, pour the tempering over the chutney.
- Stir well and serve the Mavinkai Chutney with your favorite dish.
