Mead 5 Gallon
Mead, also known as honey wine, is a delicious and ancient alcoholic beverage made from fermented honey. Making a 5-gallon batch of mead is a fun and rewarding process that yields plenty of this delightful drink to enjoy and share with friends and family.
Ingredients
- 15 lbs of honey
- 5 gallons of water
- 2 packets of wine yeast
- Yeast nutrient
- Yeast energizer
- Sanitizer for equipment
Instructions
- Sanitize all equipment including fermenter, airlock, and stirring spoon.
- Heat water in a large pot and dissolve the honey in it to make a honey solution.
- Allow the honey solution to cool to room temperature.
- Transfer the honey solution to the fermenter and add the yeast, yeast nutrient, and yeast energizer.
- Seal the fermenter with an airlock and let it ferment for 2-4 weeks, or until fermentation activity ceases.
- Rack the mead into a clean container, leaving behind any sediment, and let it age for an additional 2-4 weeks.
- Bottle the mead and let it age for at least 2-3 months before enjoying.
