Meat And Lentil Stew (karachi Haleem)
This Meat and Lentil Stew, also known as Karachi Haleem, is a popular Pakistani dish that is hearty, flavorful, and perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole wheat grains
- 1/2 cup yellow lentils
- 1/2 cup red lentils
- 1 lb boneless meat, cut into small pieces
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon ginger paste
- 1 tablespoon garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 cup cooking oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Wash the whole wheat grains and lentils, then soak them in water for 2 hours.
- In a large pot, combine the soaked grains and lentils with 8 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour until the grains are tender.
- In a separate pot, heat the cooking oil and sauté the sliced onion until golden brown.
- Add the meat, ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the meat is tender.
- Add the cooked meat mixture to the pot of simmering grains and lentils. Use a wooden spoon to mash and mix everything together until it forms a thick stew-like consistency.
- Serve hot, garnished with fried onions, fresh ginger, and a squeeze of lemon juice.
