Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat grains
  • 1/2 cup yellow lentils
  • 1/2 cup red lentils
  • 1 lb boneless meat, cut into small pieces
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 cup cooking oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash the whole wheat grains and lentils, then soak them in water for 2 hours.
  2. In a large pot, combine the soaked grains and lentils with 8 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour until the grains are tender.
  3. In a separate pot, heat the cooking oil and sauté the sliced onion until golden brown.
  4. Add the meat, ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the meat is tender.
  5. Add the cooked meat mixture to the pot of simmering grains and lentils. Use a wooden spoon to mash and mix everything together until it forms a thick stew-like consistency.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fried onions, fresh ginger, and a squeeze of lemon juice.
