Medovik (heavenly Honey Cake)
Medovik, also known as Heavenly Honey Cake, is a classic dessert from Uzbek cuisine. This multi-layered cake is made with honey-infused dough and a creamy filling, creating a sweet and indulgent treat that is perfect for special occasions or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup honey
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups sour cream
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the honey and vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a thin circle. Place the circles on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the dough is baking, prepare the filling by mixing the sour cream with sugar to taste.
- Once the dough circles are baked and cooled, spread a layer of the sour cream filling on each circle and stack them on top of each other.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 4 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
