Meen Curry (kodava Style Fish Curry)
Meen Curry is a traditional fish curry from the Kodava Cuisine, known for its rich and aromatic flavors. This recipe is a staple in Kodava households and is a perfect combination of spices and fresh fish.
Ingredients
- 500g fish, cut into pieces
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp Kodava curry powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp tamarind paste
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
Instructions
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
- Add the tomatoes, green chilies, and curry leaves. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Add the Kodava curry powder, turmeric powder, and tamarind paste. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
- Pour in the coconut milk and bring the curry to a gentle simmer.
- Gently add the fish pieces and cook for about 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
- Season with salt and serve hot with steamed rice.
