Meen Curry (spicy Coorgi Fish Curry)
Meen Curry, also known as Spicy Coorgi Fish Curry, is a traditional dish from the Kodava Cuisine of Karnataka, India. This flavorful and aromatic fish curry is a staple in Coorgi households and is perfect for spice lovers.
Ingredients
- 500g fish (preferably kingfish or mackerel), cut into pieces
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 3-4 green chilies, slit
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons Coorgi masala powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
Instructions
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
- Add the tomatoes, green chilies, and curry leaves. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Add turmeric powder, Coorgi masala powder, and tamarind paste. Mix well.
- Pour in the coconut milk and bring the curry to a gentle simmer.
- Gently add the fish pieces to the curry and cook for 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
- Adjust the seasoning with salt and simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
