Meen Curry (spicy Coorgi Fish Curry)

Ingredients

  • 500g fish (preferably kingfish or mackerel), cut into pieces
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 3-4 green chilies, slit
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons Coorgi masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

Instructions

  1. Heat coconut oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
  2. Add the tomatoes, green chilies, and curry leaves. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  3. Add turmeric powder, Coorgi masala powder, and tamarind paste. Mix well.
  4. Pour in the coconut milk and bring the curry to a gentle simmer.
  5. Gently add the fish pieces to the curry and cook for 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
  6. Adjust the seasoning with salt and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice or neer dosa.
