Meen Cutlet (fish Cutlet)
Meen Cutlet, also known as Fish Cutlet, is a popular appetizer in Mangalurean Catholic Cuisine. It is a delicious and crispy snack made with fish, potatoes, and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 500g boneless fish, cooked and flaked
- 3 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 2 eggs, beaten
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flaked fish, mashed potatoes, chopped onion, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, garam masala, red chili powder, coriander leaves, and salt. Mix well to form a uniform mixture.
- Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into flat round cutlets.
- Dip each cutlet in beaten eggs, then coat with bread crumbs, ensuring an even coating.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the cutlets until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides.
- Remove the cutlets from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with ketchup or chutney.
