Meen Cutlets (fragrant Fish Cutlets)
Meen Cutlets, also known as Fragrant Fish Cutlets, are a popular dish in Mangalurean cuisine. These crispy and flavorful cutlets are perfect as an appetizer or a side dish.
Ingredients
- 500g boneless fish fillets, such as kingfish or mackerel
- 2 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 2 eggs, beaten
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Boil the fish fillets in water with a pinch of salt until cooked. Drain and flake the fish.
- In a large bowl, combine the flaked fish, mashed potatoes, chopped onion, green chilies, ginger, garlic, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, coriander leaves, and salt. Mix well to form a uniform mixture.
- Shape the mixture into small patties or cutlets and dip each in beaten egg, then coat with bread crumbs.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the cutlets until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve hot with mint chutney or ketchup.
