Meen Cutlets (fragrant Fish Cutlets)

Ingredients

  • 500g boneless fish fillets, such as kingfish or mackerel
  • 2 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Boil the fish fillets in water with a pinch of salt until cooked. Drain and flake the fish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flaked fish, mashed potatoes, chopped onion, green chilies, ginger, garlic, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, coriander leaves, and salt. Mix well to form a uniform mixture.
  3. Shape the mixture into small patties or cutlets and dip each in beaten egg, then coat with bread crumbs.
  4. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the cutlets until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  5. Serve hot with mint chutney or ketchup.
