Meen Kuzhambu (delicious Fish Curry)

Ingredients

  • 500g fish (preferably kingfish or mackerel), cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup tamarind extract
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp gingelly oil (sesame oil)
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, and curry leaves. Sauté until the seeds splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  4. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, and red chili powder. Sauté for a few minutes.
  5. Pour in the tamarind extract and bring it to a boil.
  6. Add the fish pieces and simmer until the fish is cooked through.
  7. Pour in the coconut milk and simmer for a few more minutes.
  8. Adjust the seasoning and remove from heat.
