Meen Kuzhambu (delicious Fish Curry)
Meen Kuzhambu is a traditional Tamil fish curry that is bursting with flavors and spices. This delicious curry is a staple in Tamil cuisine and is perfect for a hearty meal with steamed rice.
Ingredients
- 500g fish (preferably kingfish or mackerel), cleaned and cut into pieces
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup tamarind extract
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp gingelly oil (sesame oil)
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp coriander powder
- 1 tbsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, and curry leaves. Sauté until the seeds splutter.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, and red chili powder. Sauté for a few minutes.
- Pour in the tamarind extract and bring it to a boil.
- Add the fish pieces and simmer until the fish is cooked through.
- Pour in the coconut milk and simmer for a few more minutes.
- Adjust the seasoning and remove from heat.
