Meen Molee (fish Molee)
Meen Molee, also known as Fish Molee, is a traditional dish from the Mangalurean Catholic Cuisine. This creamy and mildly spiced fish curry is a popular delicacy in the coastal region of Mangalore.
Ingredients
- 500g fish (preferably kingfish or pomfret), cut into pieces
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 1 inch ginger, julienned
- 4-5 green chilies, slit
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1 cup thick coconut milk
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp black pepper powder
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and sauté the onions, ginger, green chilies, and curry leaves until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add turmeric powder and black pepper powder, and sauté for a minute.
- Pour in the thick coconut milk and bring it to a gentle simmer.
- Add the fish pieces and cook on low heat until the fish is cooked through, about 10-15 minutes.
- Season with salt and gently mix without breaking the fish pieces.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice.
