Meen Varuval, also known as Mangalorean Fish Fry, is a popular dish in Mangalurean Catholic Cuisine. It is a delicious and flavorful fried fish recipe that is perfect for a special dinner or a family gathering.
Ingredients
- 4 fillets of kingfish or pomfret
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
- 2 tbsp rice flour
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Clean and wash the fish fillets. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
- In a bowl, mix turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, black pepper powder, rice flour, lemon juice, and salt to form a thick paste.
- Apply this paste to the fish fillets, ensuring they are coated evenly. Marinate for 15 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the marinated fish fillets in the pan.
- Fry the fish for 3-4 minutes on each side until they are golden and crispy.
- Remove the fish from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with sliced onions, lemon wedges, and your favorite chutney.
