Methi Muthiya Mania
Methi Muthiya Mania is a popular Gujarati snack made with fresh fenugreek leaves, chickpea flour, and a blend of aromatic spices. These steamed dumplings are then pan-fried to perfection, resulting in a crispy exterior and a soft, flavorful interior.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh fenugreek leaves, finely chopped
- 1 cup chickpea flour
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander-cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
- Oil for pan-frying
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped fenugreek leaves, chickpea flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander-cumin powder, baking soda, oil, sugar, and salt. Mix well.
- Add water gradually to form a firm dough. Knead the dough for a few minutes to ensure all the ingredients are well combined.
- Divide the dough into small portions and shape them into cylindrical dumplings.
- Steam the dumplings in a steamer for 15-20 minutes until they are cooked through.
- Once steamed, let the dumplings cool for a few minutes, then slice them into small pieces.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and sesame seeds. Once they splutter, add the sliced dumplings and pan-fry until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the muthiyas from the pan and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
- Serve hot with chutney or a cup of masala chai.
