Meyveli Pilav, also known as Fragrant Rice Pilaf with Dried Fruits, is a traditional dish from Crimean Tatar cuisine. This delightful pilaf is infused with the sweet and tangy flavors of dried fruits, making it a perfect side dish for special occasions or festive gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 3 cups water
- 1/4 cup dried apricots, chopped
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 1/4 cup golden raisins
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the rice and sauté for 2-3 minutes until lightly toasted.
- Stir in the dried fruits, slivered almonds, ground cinnamon, ground cumin, and salt. Mix well to combine.
- Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
- Fluff the pilaf with a fork before serving.
