Meyveli Pilav (spiced Rice With Dried Fruits And Nuts)
Meyveli Pilav is a traditional dish from Crimean Tatar cuisine that combines the savory flavors of spiced rice with the natural sweetness of dried fruits and nuts. This aromatic and flavorful dish is perfect for special occasions or as a comforting family meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 4 cups water
- 1/4 cup dried apricots, chopped
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup almonds, chopped
- 1/4 cup pistachios, chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the cumin, cinnamon, and turmeric, and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the rice to the pot and stir to coat it with the spiced butter.
- Pour in the water and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, sprinkle the dried fruits and nuts over the rice. Cover and continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes until the rice is tender and the fruits are plump.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and gently mix in the fruits and nuts. Serve hot.
