Milagu Kozhi (chettinad Pepper Chicken)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup curry leaves
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp black peppercorns
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the black peppercorns, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, and coriander seeds until fragrant. Grind them into a fine powder.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
  4. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they turn white.
  5. Add the tomato puree, ground spice powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 10 minutes.
  6. Pour in the coconut milk and simmer for another 10 minutes until the chicken is cooked through.
  7. Garnish with curry leaves and chopped coriander leaves before serving.
