Milk Pie, also known as Creamy Qumeshtor, is a traditional Albanian dessert that is creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious. It's a simple yet indulgent treat that is perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 package of store-bought phyllo dough
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and ground cinnamon. Add the unsalted butter and stir until melted.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Layer half of the phyllo dough sheets in a greased baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Pour the milk mixture over the phyllo dough. Layer the remaining phyllo dough sheets on top, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Allow the milk pie to cool before serving. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon if desired.
